Things I don't understand

Every day, I find myself scratching my head over something..and these are just a few of the things I don't understand:

1)  Why does my computer say there is a "critical message" and when I look to see the message, it says "no updates available?!?

2)  When the street sign says "NO TURN WHEN CHILDREN ARE PRESENT", how can I tell if that person on the sidewalk is a kid~since many kids are taller than 5'1" me and, when there, for instance, is a hooded jacket added to the person, I  never know?!?

3)  A few years ago, I had to get "the converter box thing" for my non cable tv..and I assumed this was supposed to make my life easier, so why , now, does that tv regularly say "WILL SHUT DOWN MOMENTARILY DUE TO AUTOMATIC SHUT DONW: ?!? (..a huge pain in the butt, especially when I am in another room and suddenly I hear LOUD static)

  4) What is my PH balance and why does a woman on a tv commercial say I should be worried about it?!?

5) When a store advertises "the best sale of the season", what , exactly, IS "the season"?!?

6)  When I play "Words with Friends" why are some words that are in my Scrabble Dictionary NOT accepted and other words that are NOT in the dictionary ARE accepted?!?

n7)  If I go to bed in the wee hours of the morning and get up in the early afternoon, should I be putting my "night  cream" on my face when I get up and the "day cream" when I got to bed?!?

Round abouts

What's with all the "round abouts"...We sure never head those when I had driver's ed. I  know you have to yield to the left..but the ones tha thave double lane ones just throw me.I'm never sure which part of the circle to enter--depending on where I want to exit the "circle from hell".
And now some major streets have them so close together that  I fear I will either 1) end up going around in circles or 2) end up leaving the circle at an UNintended spot and go god knows where.  I have changed my routes through the city to avoid these areas..but I still find my self swearing under my breath when the car behind me is honking at me (when I am about to enter a single lane round about) as I assess the speed of the car directly across from me. . .which just entered the circle but is going so fast that they, essentially, ARE on my left.  Could someone make some "public service videos" for tv showing  some scenarios at round abouts?

I'm back. . .

Well, I turned 63 this month..and , as birthdays will sometimes do, I find myself thinking of things I let fall on the way side--like bog entries.  So. I'm back.
Today's topic is tv commercials and my "Are you kidding?!?" response to same.
Like, there is an ad I see a lot for some medication and it ends by saying "if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. do not take"..to which I always think "if you need to be told that, you need some serious meds"
And then there is the one for aspirin which ends with the words"be sure to tell your doctor before beginning an aspirin regimen". . .and all I can think is how my doctor would react if I would call her and say "gee, is it ok if I take an aspirin a day?" (I can just see her thinking how insecure I am.)
And don't even get me started about the erectile dysfunction ads that show a couple ~~each in a bath rub in what appears to be an open field. . .

New Year thoughts

Well, another holiday has come and gone and the new year is a few weeks old. I am finally "coming down" from the barrage of holiday ads for stuff that "everyone needs to get"..but the effects of that annual consumer attack lingers. I find myself looking at every commercial ontv and thinking :Say WHAT?"..For example, there is a new tooth paste ad that says "Life opens up when you do"...what the heck does that have to do with teeth? Frankly, it sounds faintly erotic..And, then, there is a fairly new toilet paper commercial where a woman (sounding like she is daring to speak the truth about a touchy subject) says "It's time to talk about what really happens in the bathroom" (or something to that effect). For a minute, I found myself wondering if (God forbid) things were not really being "wiped" down there..but, then, I thought...of course, that's not a problem. And THEN, we have the confusing ads for "feminine products" which , one the one hand, seem to imply women need lubrication, and, on the other hand, say women need absorbtion!?!?! Very confusing...

Memorial Day 2011

Well, here I am again..I was just reading some of my old blogs --and how I made a New Year's resolution to post blogs regularly and yet months have passed....which might have something to do with the fact that I know no one reads this ...and , still, I keep thinking that will change. I also re-read my Xmas thoughts and am ashamed at my spelling! But, anyway, on public radio today (listened to while driving back from a great holiday dinner in Algoma) they were talking about military blogs--service men (and women) sending thoughts right from the war zones overseas. That got me thinking about my blog--and I am back.
I also see that my initial profile info. has me saying I am 60 years old..but, of course, I am now 62. Unfortunately, wisdom does not seem to have come with age.
Here are a few of the things that I still do not understand:
1) Since I keep hearing that plastic bags take forever to decompose and are clogging up the world, why do the grocery stores always push the plastic option?
2) Why is there a "low suction" option on my vacuum---when would you not want full strength?
3)When you have a physical scheduled with your doctor (I have one this week), why does the clinic leave a message telling you to make sure and bring all medications and a list of all immunizations? I mean my doctor prescribed the meds and knows what immunizations I've had.. LOOK IN MY CHART!
4)When I go to turn off my computer, and I tell it to "Shut Down", why does it default to "Sleep" when I was told it should not be in the "sllep" mode?

Car Crazies

OK--here's the deal--a few months ago, while driving my car, the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light went on. This really bothered me and I made an appointment with my car place for a few days later. The light stayed on during the time before the appointment and, on the way to the service place, the light went off! When I got there, I told the guys what happened and they said they could do some sort of computer check to see what HAD been the problem. However, when this was done, they were not entirely sure--said something about the first cylinder and how there are "3 random checks" once something misfires. but, basically, I just left--happy enough to have that light not warning me of impending disaster. A few weeks later, it went on again.and then (after a few days) it went off again.and THEN it went on again. By then it was the new year, and I decided to try again--thinking it would be easier to diagnose if it was on. I went back and the mechanics did hours of work to try to figure it out--and then I was advised to just have them turn the light off--and just as they were about to do that, it went off by itself! I decided some "divine intervention" had made the car satisfied with all the attention it had gotten and I left. The next day, the light went on again! I drove right back to the service place and this time they decided to keep the car overnight. The next day when I got the car, the light was off, but I awas told that if (when?) it goes on again, thst unless it flashes, I can probably just ignore it...that the only permanant solution would probably be a new engine. All this has confused me a lot, since I am one of those people who assumes that any warning signs in life must be adressed and fixed right away. However, I am working on a "DON'T EVEN THINK UNLESS IT BLINKS" mind set.

Happy New Year

Well, I was losing a game of "Upwords" at the stroke of midnight..but I look forward to a successful re-match in 2011! Speaking of "competitions", this first weekend of the year was a mixed bag for Wisconisn sports fans--the Badgers lost at yesterday's Rose Bowl, but the Packers won today...not that I am exactly a sports fan, but still--it seems note worthy.
My only resolutions are to do my moisterizing eye drops twice a day (based on recent appt. at eye clinic) and to write in my journal every day. I have already failed, but figure I have time to catch up and get on track! Here's to 2nd chances!
